Our staff consists of certified wastewater operators, maintenance specialists, laboratory technicians, and engineers whose sole mission is to safeguard the public health of Marin County residents and protect the environment by providing excellent wastewater treatment and disposal services.

The CMSA Laboratory provides the necessary data to ensure the quality of the effluent we discharge to the bay and to analyze the different treatment processes at the plant to monitor how well they are functioning.

The laboratory has two main purposes:

• To satisfy all of the regulatory testing requirements of the Regional Water Quality Control Board, which are outlined in our NPDES permit and meet other regulatory requirements.
• To provide daily information on the different treatment processes at the plant and how well they are functioning in order to provide quality effluent.

We are active participants in the Bay Area Clean Water (BACWA) Laboratory Committee, and NPDES Permit Committee, California Water Environment Association Laboratory Committee, Clean Estuary Partnership, San Francisico Estuary Institute, and Regional Monitoring Program.
